What is Correlation Data?
Correlation Data is a feature in WPMissionControl that helps you understand how different monitoring events across your websites relate to each other — so you can see not just what happened, but why it happened.
When you have multiple sources of information (uptime, SSL, domain, sitemap, performance, security, and activity), it can be difficult to interpret what’s truly important. Correlation Data connects these dots automatically.
💡 The idea behind it
Every website experiences dozens of small changes and events every day — response time fluctuations, plugin updates, certificate renewals, content changes, and more.
Individually, these events don’t tell much. But when you look at them together, patterns emerge:
- A drop in response time after a visual layout change might suggest new scripts or heavy assets were added.
- A series of failed login attempts following a plugin update could indicate a security vulnerability.
- A search ranking drop combined with frequent downtime could point to uptime issues affecting SEO.
WPMissionControl’s Correlation Layer collects all these signals, groups them, and summarizes them into clear daily or weekly insights.
🧩 What types of data are correlated
Correlation Data currently connects:
| Source | What it tracks |
|---|---|
| Uptime & Response | Detects downtime, outages, or slow response periods |
| SSL Certificates | Tracks expiring, missing, or invalid certificates |
| Domain Status | Monitors domain expiration, DNS, and WHOIS issues |
| Website Health | Aggregates core, theme, and plugin integrity status |
| Visual & Layout Changes | Detects when a page’s appearance or layout differs from the last screenshot |
| Security Alerts | Flags suspicious file changes, failed logins, or detected malware |
| Website Activity | Captures events from the WPMissionControl plugin such as plugin/theme activations, updates, post changes, successful and failed logins, and core updates |
| (coming soon) Search Console Data | Correlates traffic or visibility changes with website performance and uptime |
📊 How correlation data is used
WPMissionControl transforms this raw data into meaningful summaries displayed in:
- Your account overview dashboard — showing combined health, uptime, and risk trends.
- Weekly and monthly reports — turning technical data into human-readable summaries.
- Daily correlation cards — for users who want a near real-time overview of what’s changing.
Daily summary includes a short AI-generated insight, highlighting what matters most (for example: “Visual changes detected on three pages following plugin updates — verify layout integrity.”).
🚀 Why it matters
Correlation Data saves you from manually comparing logs, uptime charts, and plugin updates.
It transforms scattered signals into a single story of your website’s behavior.
With it, you can:
- Spot cause-and-effect relationships faster.
- Identify risks before they escalate.
- Communicate clearly with clients or team members.
It’s your website’s daily narrative, distilled into a single, actionable view.
